Lebanon "will be the defeat point for Israel and America", so said Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
LONDON, November 16 (IranMania) - Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has said the United States and Israel would be defeated in Lebanon, in talks with Lebanese parliament speaker Nabih Berri, the media has reported.
Accodrding to AFP, Ayatollah Khamenei praised Berri, leader of the secular Shiite group Amal, for his "excellent role" in the July-August war between Hezbollah and Israel, and for the "victory" against the Jewish state, in their meeting on Tuesday.
"What led to this great victory was the unity and harmony between Hezbollah and Amal brothers which must go on in future more strongly than before," said Khamenei.
Lebanon "will be the defeat point for Israel and America", the two-arch enemies of the Islamic republic, Khamenei said.
Whether or not Lebanon will indeed be the defeat point for Israel and America, the situation there is grave and deteriorating.
Brandishing Lebanese flags and white banners reading "We want a clean government" and "National unity", the crowd gathered around Prime Minister Fuad Siniora's heavily barricaded offices in central Beirut and dug in for a long haul.
After darkness fell, protesters blocked access roads to Mr Siniora's office where he was holed up inside. They put up tents on at least three main roads leading to the government building.
Gateway Pundit has more.
Hezbollah thugs are now blocking the roads to government offices where the Lebanese leaders are holed up. The thugs promise to stay put until the government falls.
The question is, who is supporting the government of Lebanon? Is anything being done to help Prime Minister Siniora stop this takeover? From Abu Kais :
Update. The Hizbullah militia has laid siege to the government building, trapping the prime minister and cabinet ministers inside. Roadblocks were set up by Hizbullah members in what can only be described as coup d'etat.
The Lebanese army had to call Nabih Berri, and the Saudi King had to intervene through his ambassador, to "partially" remove the siege. Hizbullah "tents" are still on the roads, isolating the government building.
The Saudi king phoned the cabinet and spoke to all ministers one by one, affirming his support. The only countries NOT supporting this government are Syria and Iran. (my emphasis)
Syria and Iran, the two countries the Iraq
SurrenderStudy Group is going to recommend we have direct talks with to help out in Iraq. And Democrat golden-boy Barack Obama agrees:
Sen. Barack Obama D-Ill., a frequently-named 2008 presidential prospect, said he was satisfied with a multilateral approach to include Iran and Syria.
"I hope that in the coming weeks the White House will engage in good-faith discussions about how to proceed that will seriously consider the ideas put forward by the Study Group, as well as other proposals such as a regional summit that would include both Iran and Syria in a discussion about Iraq's future," he said.
I'm nowhere near as smart as a "frequently-named 2008 presidential prospect", but the words "good-faith" and "Iran and Syria" don't belong in the same sentence. Syria and Iran are not and will not be "good-faith" partners.
A State Department spokesman, Tom Casey, accused Syria and Iran of instigating the protests which he said were aimed at toppling the democratically-elected government.
US Ambassador to the UN John Bolton called the Hezbollah demonstration "part of the Iran-Syria inspired coup".
From Blue Crab Boulevard:
Lebanon must not fall to Syria. But Syria is emboldened by the Baker commission because Baker has a history of selling out Lebanon, of course.
Our enemies around the world have been emboldened by not only the Baker commission but the Democrat's victory in November as well. Lebanon must not fall, but who is going to stop it?
