Last May John Edwards was interviewed on You Tube. At the end of the interview he was asked "right or privilege"?. Real Clear Politics has the transcript (the video is posted too):
Question: A college education?
Q: Health care?
Q: A livable wage?
Q: Owning a handgun?
Q: American citizenship for someone not born here but has worked here for one year?
E: Working for one year? That's a hard one, because I think people have to earn citizenship. I think I would have a period be longer than one year.
Q: Five years maybe?
E: Five years for sure.
Q: Access to the Internet?
E: That should be a right.
One has to wonder if John Edwards has ever read the Constitution. If so he obviously thinks he's wiser than our Founding Fathers. The trouble is so many Americans agree with him. If a Democrat is elected in 2008, this is what we're in for. Our rights become privileges and the United States will become The Nanny State.
In "John Edwards: Constitution Revisionist" Brian at Flashpoint compares Edwards' grasp of the Constitution with Ron Paul's views. It ain't even close.
