Linda Chavez plays the race card on illegal immigration
I just don't like Mexicans, or anyone from south of the border. Because I believe immigrants should come to the United States legally, just like the "Germans, Swedes, the Irish, Italians, Poles, Jews and others" did in the past, I'm a xenophobe. So says Linda Chavez. I live in "fear" of Mexicans. And I "loathe" them. Wrong Ms. Chavez, I loathe you. How dare you equate me with someone who would advocate forced sterilization:
Where once the xenophobes could advocate forced sterilization and eugenics coupled with virtually shutting off legal immigration from "undesirable" countries, now they must be content with building walls, putting troops on the border, rounding up illegal aliens on the job and deporting them, passing local ordinances to signal their distaste for immigrants' multi-family living arrangements, and doing whatever else they can to drive these people back where they came from.
I am not a xenophobe. I do not hate foreigners, never have. I hate people who break our laws and then demand special rights. Rights that millions have waited patiently for years to earn. I loathe people who wave their flag and curse our country all the while taking every precious gift the greatest country in the world has to offer. Stealing from hardworking, legal (many of them Mexican) Americans. As for their "multi-family living arrangements" have you ever been inside a three bedroom house with fifteen adults living there? Try it sometime, maybe they'll let you move in. Oh, and if you don't mind, would you please cut the grass from time to time?
To reduce this debate to the most base level, mindlessly accusing wide swaths of the conservative movement of racial prejudice, is reprehensible. As the president of an organization that claims to be "the only think tank devoted exclusively to the promotion of colorblind equal opportunity and racial harmony," this is pretty malignant stuff. This issue isn't about any particular race or group of people, and any honest observer knows it. But it didn't take long to pull out the race card. Shameful.
Shameful and pathetic.
