Hillary is running for president. This is such old news it's almost boring.
"I'm not just starting a campaign, though, I'm beginning a conversation with you, with America," she said. "Let's talk. Let's chat. The conversation in Washington has been just a little one-sided lately, don't you think?"
She sounds so presidential, don't you think?
Many Democrats, eager to reclaim the White House after eight years of President Bush, fret that she carries too much baggage from her husband's scandal-plagued presidency to win a general election. Among many voters, she is best known for her disastrous attempt in 1993 to overhaul the nation's health care system and for standing by her husband after his marital infidelity.
Hillary has plenty of baggage of her own to answer for, assuming the fawning press will ask the questions. For example, in no particular order:
New Square, pardon for votes
Hillary Clinton visited New Square last August (2000) during the Senate campaign. She soundly defeated her opponent, former Rep. Rick Lazio in the community, 1400 votes to 12, a margin that Mayor Rudolph Giuliani-an opponent of the commutations-described as "very strange". By contrast, Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) received 3 votes in the community in 1998. (Bill Douglas, Newsday 2/24/2001, I'm searching for a link)
Some reports show Hillary with 1359 votes and Lazio 10. At any rate, a huge margin for a Democrat in New Square.
Hillary's expensive taste in office space:
For her New York office, the former first lady chose a suite on the 26th floor of a Lexington Avenue high-rise at $514,149 a year.
Granted, rents in New York City aren't cheap. But New York's senior senator, Charles Schumer, has an office a mere block away that costs $209,532 a year.
You'd think the most scandal-plagued couple in presidential history would, if nothing else, have some public relations sense. But it appears these narcissists have acquired a welded-on sense of entitlement that puts their own comfort first come hell or high water. (Boston Herald editorial 3/21/2001...no link)
Hell to pay:
What Hillary Clinton did to the employees at the White House Travel office show the lengths she will go to get her way "come hell or high water". The White House requested an FBI file on Billy Dale seven months after he was fired and outright lied about why:
White House officials obtained FBI background material on Billy Dale seven months after he was ousted as head of the White House travel office, incorrectly asserting they were considering giving him access to the building.
The Clinton administration said it mistakenly sought the information in renewing White House passes. But Rep. William F. Clinger Jr., R-Pa., chairman of a House oversight panel that is looking into the travel office affair, suggested the White House was looking for negative information about Dale that might justify its controversial decision to fire him in May 1993.
It was Billy Dale and the rest of the travel office employees that went through hell.
The Clintons had every right to simply dismiss Dale and the others and bring in their own people. Hillary, the brains behind the operation, not only had Dale fired, but also tried to send him to prison. Firing was not good enough. In May of 1993 the employees were given one hour's notice to clean out their desks, and they were escorted away in a windowless van. The replacement was made without competitive bid.
Barack Obama, you've been warned.
Who hired Craig Livingstone and the "bureaucratic snafu":
When allegations erupted in 1996 that the White House was collecting secret FBI files on Republican opponents, the White House chalked up the controversy to a "bureaucratic snafu."
Livingstone, who had custody of the files in the White House, was fingered as the key man in the scandal.
As media scrutiny fell upon Livingstone, his questionable background raised new questions.
Livingstone's most important job before serving at the White House was that of a local bar bouncer at a Washington, D.C., night club.
Livingstone's White House Security position is considered among the nation's most sensitive. Livingstone had the highest security clearances in the U.S. government.
With the FBI scandal erupting, the White House quickly distanced itself from Livingstone.
Mrs. Clinton and other White House officials could offer no explanation as to why Livingstone had been hired, or who had hired him.
Yeah right. The infamous reappearing billing records:
As for the discovery of her missing law firm billing records in the White House residence two years after they were subpoenaed, the first lady said: "I do not know how the billing records came to be identified ... at the White House, although I have read various media accounts."
And Hillary can't recall, for the smartest woman in the world, Hillary Clinton can't remember shit:
In a grudging response to the Senate Whitewater Committee, Hillary Rodham Clinton said yesterday she recalled almost nothing about her law firm billing records. She declined to address a last-minute allegation about an old loan.
Number of times HRC said "I don't recall" or its equivalent in a statement to a House investigating committee....50
There are so many more examples of Hillary's arrogant, unethical and illegal behavior. Her disastrous health care proposals, her windfall in cattle futures (which she lied about), Whitewater and Castle Grande. I expect bloggers will be more than capable of honestly reporting on them as a reminder to voters just what we'll be getting if we make the mistake of electing her president and Commander in Chief of the United States.
Democratic Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton embarked on a widely anticipated campaign for the White House on Saturday, a former first lady intent on becoming the first female president. "I'm in and I'm in to win," she said on her Web site.
